Cavorting with a "new" cuisine

Hi to everyone,

Even though I intended to post this blog last evening (our time), after a few distractions (good ones I might add), I decided to postpone this posting until morning. That way I would most likely write a coherent sentence or two!

As I've mentioned before, adjusting to the dietary changes we've encountered since arriving in Kenya has been a challenge at times, but I believe we're improving (dare I say - advancing) in our ability to adjust to those changes. After our outing to the Elephant Orphanage on Saturday we stopped for lunch at a restaurant which featured Indian cuisine. Now I know to those of you who are a bit more adventuresome or accustomed to international cuisine, you are probably thinking - what's so "new" about that? - Well, to us it was a "culinary stretch." I am happy though to share that we were pleasantly surprised and impressed not only with our menu choices, but also the impeccable service at such a reasonable price especially when it was compared to U.S. standards.

We ordered two different chicken options since we have hardly had any chicken since our departure . Mary, our friend who is also volunteering her services during this trimester at ANU, enjoyed this repast with us. It is definitely on my list of places to return to for another meal out.
Dining in "style" at the Open House Restaurant

Sunday was another good day. We enjoyed a good service at the University Campus Church. Milly, the neighbor I referred to in one of my earliest blogs, was the guest speaker. His animated personality came through in his preaching style. I understood most of what he said except when he would speak so quickly that my ears had a bit of difficulty picking up the accent on certain words. Greg, our missionary friend, always leads in a hymn or gospel song during the offertory. He asked me if I would like to play the keyboard for him. I enjoyed doing that. I would like to find time to practice on it during the week since I am more used to the touch of a traditional piano. This will be my contribution to the service during the time we're here.

After church Mary and Lee and I went out to eat with Greg and Amy and a guest of theirs. We had a great time of fellowship. It is so nice that we have friends here that have been such an encouragement to us as we have been adjusting to the changes we've been encountering. God knew what and whom we needed and He prepared the way before we even got here. What a blessing it is to know that!

It's time to eat breakfast and get this day moving along! Thanks for taking the time to read this. I pray for you as you pray for us. Have a great day!

Marilyn
